Summary

Foundation and Empire tells the incredible story of a new breed of man who create a new force for galactic government。 Thus, the Foundation hurtles into conflict with the decadent, decrepit First Empire。 In this struggle for power amid the chaos of the stars, man stands at the threshold of a new, enlightened life which could easily be put aside for the old forces of barbarism。 The Foundation novels of Isaac Asimov constitute what is very likely the most famed epic in all of science-fiction

Started on Book 2 immediately after finishing Book 1。 To be honest, I was left a bit disappointed by Book 1, which I read only after seeing the epic Apple TV+ trailer for the upcoming show。 Book 2 more than made up for whatever faults Book 1 had!In FOUNDATION AND EMPIRE, the tiny independent home world of the Foundation (where scientists work to preserve humanity's knowledge) is pitted against the dying- yet still mighty - Empire。 Because of the Foundation's founder Hari Seldon, whose knowledge Started on Book 2 immediately after finishing Book 1。 To be honest, I was left a bit disappointed by Book 1, which I read only after seeing the epic Apple TV+ trailer for the upcoming show。 Book 2 more than made up for whatever faults Book 1 had!In FOUNDATION AND EMPIRE, the tiny independent home world of the Foundation (where scientists work to preserve humanity's knowledge) is pitted against the dying- yet still mighty - Empire。 Because of the Foundation's founder Hari Seldon, whose knowledge of human psychology and mathematics allowed him to predict the future for thousands of years, people of the Foundation have become complacent with the knowledge that they cannot fail, cannot be beaten。But the weakness of Hari Seldon's psychohistory is that it is based on calculated actions of masses of men, and doesn't take into account the anomaly of a single person。 And finally, one is born with a super power that can change the future。 And there's nothing the Foundation can do about it。。。 or is there?!Book 2 should serve as an example for the famous adage, "Never judge a series by the first book!" Haha。 I now understand and support the hype around the series! Basically, all of Book 1's faults have not only DISAPPEARED in Book 2, but also, Asimov's writing style has evolved in leaps and bounds。 He is no longer the scientist - turned - clumsy - sci。fi writer。 He is, quite simply, a good writer whose characters BREATHE, complete with a gift for economy and pacing, and dialogue。Strong female lead? Check!Mind blowing plot twist at the end that led to an involuntary attack of profanity and book throwing (safely on a soft bed)? Yup!Asimov's secound Foundation book is the reason why we read。 This is what the best of sci。fi can be: the story of humanity, its faults dissected and analyzed, with a prophetic lens。。。 Both a warning and a beacon of hope。 。。。more

This book is Asimov at his finest。 Gripping plot, fast paced action and galaxy spanning consequences! What more can a sci-fi fan want? I didn’t enjoy this book quite as much as the first but still found this one fun。 The build is a little slower but I would argue that the payoff at the end of this book is perhaps a little better。 My main gripe is that Asimov doesn’t write female characters very well。 A lot of the defining characteristics are dated gender tropes that should probably just stick in the 1950s。 It doesn’t ruin the book and Bayta is an exception to this pattern。 But sometimes it got tiresome when he describes the men I didn’t enjoy this book quite as much as the first but still found this one fun。 The build is a little slower but I would argue that the payoff at the end of this book is perhaps a little better。 My main gripe is that Asimov doesn’t write female characters very well。 A lot of the defining characteristics are dated gender tropes that should probably just stick in the 1950s。 It doesn’t ruin the book and Bayta is an exception to this pattern。 But sometimes it got tiresome when he describes the men’s conversations of galactic politics to be boring to women who couldn’t possibly be interested in such manly things。 Anyways。 The plot is great, the final 50 pages truly fly by because they are so compelling。 Starting the third book now。 I’m in on the series。 。。。more

2。5Finished at the cottage。Asimov's writing leaves a lot to be desired。 I get really bored and occasionally confused by his prose。 It's likely partly a product of the practically geological timeline of the series - we're trying to describe the events of a millennium here, so naturally, there's some dislocation。 And every time - every time - I think I'm sick of this series, something grabs me, and I lock in。Not a lot more to say。 Despite my hesitancy, I'm reading the third in the series now, bein 2。5Finished at the cottage。Asimov's writing leaves a lot to be desired。 I get really bored and occasionally confused by his prose。 It's likely partly a product of the practically geological timeline of the series - we're trying to describe the events of a millennium here, so naturally, there's some dislocation。 And every time - every time - I think I'm sick of this series, something grabs me, and I lock in。Not a lot more to say。 Despite my hesitancy, I'm reading the third in the series now, being just committed enough to want to know how it turns out。 Asimov is working on a scale - and with ideas - larger than most SF novels。 。。。more

Asimov’s writing style develops in this book。 It is much more straightforward and easy to read。 It does have a nice plot twist at the end which I shall not spoil here。 I am amazed at how much future generations of science fiction have borrowed from this trilogy。 Take some time to read about how Asimov’s trilogy came about, then think of the time he wrote this series。 It is a wonderful gem of a trilogy。

Foundation and Empire, the second book of the Foundation series, leaves a sour taste。 In a sense, it has the greatness of Asimov's mind, but it fails in a variety of circumstances。 The first part resembles the previous book and it has the same problems。 The second part has those and others。 It revolves around a plot that becomes obvious very early on and uses a break in consistency to warrant the change。 The writing is weird and the characters feel empty。 Overall, Isaac Asimov created an interes Foundation and Empire, the second book of the Foundation series, leaves a sour taste。 In a sense, it has the greatness of Asimov's mind, but it fails in a variety of circumstances。 The first part resembles the previous book and it has the same problems。 The second part has those and others。 It revolves around a plot that becomes obvious very early on and uses a break in consistency to warrant the change。 The writing is weird and the characters feel empty。 Overall, Isaac Asimov created an interesting World, however, he wasn't able to transpire his ideas nicely on paper。 In this, his power of creation is shadowed by his lesser literary capabilities。 。。。more

This is the second book in the Foundation series。 The storyline in this book was more cohesive in my opinion than the first book in the series (Foundation)。 There were definitely some twists to the overall plot that I did not see coming。 This book got me excited to continue the series and see what the future holds for the Foundation。

Foundation and Empire is a fantastic sequel that takes us into a journey that tackles two specific problems。 The Empire and the UnanticipatedUnlike the first book, Foundation and Empire only has two parts (meaning one time skip) The first deals with the Empire's Desire of conquest that might threaten the Foundation and the second deals with Foundation's realisation of their over reliance of Sheldon's prediction。 The book actually slows down its pace due to there being only one timeskip。 However Foundation and Empire is a fantastic sequel that takes us into a journey that tackles two specific problems。 The Empire and the UnanticipatedUnlike the first book, Foundation and Empire only has two parts (meaning one time skip) The first deals with the Empire's Desire of conquest that might threaten the Foundation and the second deals with Foundation's realisation of their over reliance of Sheldon's prediction。 The book actually slows down its pace due to there being only one timeskip。 However there are plenty of interesting ideas that can keep the reader hooked。 Both parts of the book have a very satisfactory ending。 Asimov has delivered a satisfactory and logical ending to each episode of the series which I think is a real highlight of the series。 It's not easy to write a story without being predictable when the entire premise is set on the idea that everything will go Foundation's way。 The final piece awaits。 Where is the Second Foundation? 。。。more

I definitely enjoyed Foundation more than this one。 I like that it skips through a lot of time but in the first book I still got to see the characters I was following have impact。 Gaal from the beginning of the first book didn't have a lot of impact but Salvor Hardin and Hobber Mallow did。 And it was fun to see the times change。 The beginning of this book was dedicated to see what would happen if there weren't strong leaders。 See I always thought that Hardin and Mallow set the path of course a b I definitely enjoyed Foundation more than this one。 I like that it skips through a lot of time but in the first book I still got to see the characters I was following have impact。 Gaal from the beginning of the first book didn't have a lot of impact but Salvor Hardin and Hobber Mallow did。 And it was fun to see the times change。 The beginning of this book was dedicated to see what would happen if there weren't strong leaders。 See I always thought that Hardin and Mallow set the path of course a bit。 I mean they are products of their times but I'm sorry you predicted for Hardin to use religion to set off a revolution in the surrounding territories - a religion he created no less around nuclear power? Well I guess I kind of seeing that。 Any way will Roise it was cool how to see how Seldon's plan really worked with the times and how there was no way to beat it。 The Empire literally just wasn't a threat to the Foundation。 A weak general wouldn't cause it any trouble since the Foundation while smaller had superior tech and a strong general would either try to overthrow the Emperor if the Emperor was weak or he would be executed or taken out of play if the Emperor was strong。 There was no scenario were the Foundation didn't win。 I think it merits pointing out that half a million people still fought and died fighting for the Foundation。 They'll win in the end but they can still get beat up pretty bad before that。Now the second Seldon Crisis in the book the Mule disrupted。 There should have been a civil war but it didn't happen because of the external threat of the Mule。 The Mule - a mutant which was unpredictable and thus disrupted Seldon's plan and they are only 300 hundred years in。 I mean this could totally disrupt the plan and now the Foundation might no longer found a Second Galatic Empire。 There is no way to stop the Mule but I am excited to see what the Second Foundation does the ones at Star's End。 I mean we haven't seen them yet and the Foundation at Terminus has already reached influence to Trantor so it stands to reason if the Second Foundation would be able to have done the same as well。 But if they were different and had a different person well。。。 I can't wait to see it。 I always supposed that the Foundation and the Second Foundation would end up fighting each other。 They would both expand conquering half the galaxy and then they would have to face each other as a last test to make one of them stronger and into the Second Galatic Empire because be real if they had been seperate for centuries just because they were founded by the same guy do you really think they would just shake hands and merge into one? Nope。 Not like it matters anyway since the Foundation on Terminus has been defeated and the Seldon plan is off course 。。。。 。。。more

After hearing the story of The Mule, and checking when the book was written, I had a feeling that Asimov might be affected by the rise of Hitler。 Being a mutant (one testicle), unhappy childhood, expecting hatred from others but forcing them to like/support him (propaganda), the desire to take revenge from everyone else。。。 All checks。Now I'm wondering, if the second foundation ever beats him, will there be a galaxy-wide (or at least in his part) demulification? What will happen to his royalists? This second book of the Foundation trilogy is comprised of two tales, each longer than the three tales in the first book。 The longer tales make for more interesting plots。 Most significantly, the character of The Mule is introduced, and it appears that the Foundation saga will dwell on the Mule's lifetime for a while, and most likely have other characters that will last longer as well。 Easy to read, again focusing more on ideas and plot than action。 A classic from way back, it holds up well desp This second book of the Foundation trilogy is comprised of two tales, each longer than the three tales in the first book。 The longer tales make for more interesting plots。 Most significantly, the character of The Mule is introduced, and it appears that the Foundation saga will dwell on the Mule's lifetime for a while, and most likely have other characters that will last longer as well。 Easy to read, again focusing more on ideas and plot than action。 A classic from way back, it holds up well despite being 70 years old, but it is definitely a product of its time in history。 。。。more
